1. Do I have to wear climbing shoes all the time?
No. Climbing shoes are only worn while climbing. Take them off when resting or belaying.
2. Do you wear socks with climbing shoes?
You can, especially as a beginner. It is more comfortable and common among children as well.
3. Should climbing shoes hurt?
Definitely not at the beginning. Start with comfortable models. Our staff at the gear shop will be happy to help you choose.
4. What if my climbing shoes smell after climbing?
That is normal. Always spray them with disinfectant spray after climbing to prevent odor and fungus.
5. How quickly will I improve?
It varies from person to person. Some progress quickly, others climb mainly for fun. If you want to improve, try our beginner courses or training groups.
6. Can I come alone?
Absolutely! We have auto-belay devices, you can boulder, and you can often find a partner on site. Try our courses and clubs where you will definitely meet people. There are also various social events and a large Facebook group "Lezeni kdy a kde" where climbers look for partners. However, be careful who you arrange to climb with - safety always comes first, and on Facebook everyone claims to "climb great and belay even better," even if reality can be different...
7. Are auto-belays safe?
Yes, when properly clipped in, they are among the safest belay methods and undergo regular inspections.
8. Can I drink beer while climbing or belaying?
We do not recommend it. Alcohol reduces attention and compromises safety. Enjoy a beer at our bistro after climbing.
9. What are the most common injuries?
Bruised hands and feet. Check our safety rules section to avoid them.
10. Can I climb if I am overweight?
Absolutely, everyone is welcome. You can adjust the difficulty to your fitness level. Just be careful when belaying - with a large weight difference between climber and belayer, an assisted braking device is needed (e.g., Ohm, which we are happy to lend from our rental shop), it handles differences of up to about 25 kg. The reception staff will be happy to advise you.
11. Do phones belong on the wall?
We recommend leaving your phone in your bag or in a locker in the changing room. Log your climbs in the ClimbLife app after you finish climbing - using your phone while climbing or belaying is not safe.
12. How do I understand route difficulty grades, what should I start with?
If you have never climbed, start with lower numbers and gradually increase to see what you can handle. Even great climbers warm up on easy routes.
13. Will BigWall close due to nearby construction?
No, BigWall is not closing for now and we are open as always. If you want to support us so the wall stays as long as possible, come climb!
